FRIENDLY

08th November 2004 - GangDong Field, Ulsan

FC FC (2 - 4) Won Shot Wanderers FC

The Journey out to Bangeojin was a perilous one, braved by players and our merry band of soju guzzling supporters alike. Rumour has it that some players were tempted into shot or 2, if only to settle the nerves and forget about the fact that there were about 100 of us piled into a ten seater van, following our manager on his chrome horse.

Is this really grass? Some bemused Wonshots were heard to remark as we strolled onto the immaculate Turkish training grounds. Some even contemplated lying down on it for a nap until they were informed that some chemicals, to preserve the grass, had been sprayed on the side of the pitch, good old Ulsan.

The game started off slowly, with the Wonshots monopolising the possession, but unfortunately they also seemed to be dazzled by the acres of lush green beneath their feet, the vulgar chants from the so hots and the sparkling silver hair on some of their opponents.

Despite owning the game, the Wonshots went in behind at the break. A well worked move by FCFC, aided by some slack marking allowed FCFC to fire past a helpless Mike, whose first action of the game was to scoop the ball out of the net.

However, the Won Shots were creating chance after chance with Igor controlling the midfield, Owen making good runs down the left and Gareth using his weight up front on his own. The guys at the back weren’t rocked in the slightest with Niall cleaning up, Dave making space on the right and Paul spraying a lot of good balls around.

The Won Shots got back into the game shortly into the second period. However this reporter missed the ball going into the net. I have been told that it was pot bellied in by Gareth from a sweetly delivered corner by Paul.

The Won Shots now took control with more goals from Quin and Gareth. Quin danced, Chris Waddle-like through six or seven FCFC players before poking the ball bast a daydreaming goalie.

Next Gareth finished of a slick (delivered by yours truely) Won Shot into an empty net to put the result beyond doubt.

FCFC to their credit didn't give up fighting and were rewarded with a fine headed goal after a nice move down the right. However this was our boss’ day, and he got his hat trick shortly before the end, controlling a corner, swiveling on a sixpence before rifling an unstoppable shot into the top corner.
