"You can't see the rainbow if you don't endure the rain" Korean Proverb

On a day when I normally wouldn't even ask my sheep dog to go outside, the WON SHOT WANDERERS turned in a performance full of spirit, resilience, no little skill and a lot of hardwork. These factors plus a little bit of old fashioned good luck combined to give us our first winning start. The nature of this performance was indeed encouraging from many points of view. Not least that on three separate occasions we went behind but had the bottle and the know-how to comeback and level up the score each time and eventually eek out a winner.

Our scorers were, Ali Hojeij, Gareth Copley (a real scorching gem), the irrepressible Darren Hogan who was also voted man of the match and the tigerish Rob Casselman who stole the game for the Wonshots in the final 30 minutes. Each Wonshot without exception played very well, with James Morgan again a tower of strength in defence. Our midfield was excellent with the aforementioned Darren Hogan, Matt Symes and Gareth Copley on the wing particularly eye-catching.  Personally, it was one of the most enjoyable games I have ever played for Wonshots. Wonshots.

To have a tough, enjoyable game takes two teams. So let's not forget the opposition, the YOUNG GUNS. They were a fine sporting outfit with a lot of skill. They had the bad luck of hitting our crossbar on 3/4 occasions and the worse luck of finding our keeper, Jason McCartney in inspired form when they did get on target.

To epitomise their sporting nature their captain Kim Dong Jin, invited me to his house to shower, eat some Korean cuisine and shoot a few shots of Soju after the game. They were very impressed on being invited to McKenzies by the Wonshots later that evening for a free Bar-B-Q. Isn't that what sport should be about? Overall a most enjoyable day was had by all. It's on days like this, with 3 or 4 inches of rain swimming around your boots and almost every player covered in mud from head to toe that you know we have achieved something and all the effort has been worth while. Keep it up lads.
