LEAGUE MATCH
31st July 2005 - Yangsan Stadium
DMZ FC (3-4) Won Shot Wanderers FC
Today was hotter than a prostitutes panties with a bad case of capitalism. Four key players were missing from the line up this weekend. The attractions of We managed to get the eleven we needed to start the game. 34c and no substitutes!! DMZ with fifteen players and plenty of gumption were up for the challenge. They could smell the win seeing only eleven Won Shots and knowing that we were not fielding our strongest team. The game starts and its surprisingly easy to move the ball about. We had decided early on that possession, smart passing and taking our time was going to be the key to the game going our way. With no substitutes in heat like that we had no other options, Our passing game was exceptionally accurate today and bread and butter defending from the back four meant that any threats were dealt with quickly. After 25 minutes we found ourselves 1-0 up. A handball by a DMZ player right on their penalty spot saw the boss step up to take the penalty. He hit the left upright but no matter because that little Korean fella he saw in the periphery of his vision was not trying to sell him Kimchi or Bondeagi, but was in fact trying to put him off his shot. Hence, a retake. The boss' second attempt and no excuses this time - he hit the cross bar, but the rebound falls happily for our new found striker Matt Scanlon and he rifles a loose header from a DMZ player into the back of their net. 1-0 the Won Shots – after three losses it feels really good to be ahead for the first time in three games. Half time comes - we must keep our wits about us – don’t concede in the first ten minutes of the second half and we are coasting to our first win. So five minutes into the second half we go and do what we are always likely to do and DMZ peel us open and score on us. Yes it was Judas (Roman), with a beautifully timed diving header from a cross. 1-1 is the score. A further five minutes later DMZ go 2-1 up with some sloppy defending from ourselves and that shark Judas Roman is waiting to slot an easy shot into the back of our goal. A further five minutes later we level the score with a brilliant strike from Dave Anjema from a free kick. Its lofty and its exactly the same sort of kick I’ve seen Dave take time and time again, its too high, its too fast, its going nowhere, shit it’s a goal – the dip on those shots he takes is phenomenal. At this stage things become somewhat blurry and flakey. Our eleven have been out on the pitch for 70 minutes in heat that boil in the bag cod doesn’t need for it to become all flakey. Mr Catts gets involved from a central midfield role and slots home a lovely timed ball into the DMZ goal. We go ahead. Then that exceptional new player for DMZ levels the score for his Hat trick. But not letting a signing we lost get the better of us, one of our newest signings Matt Scanlon was the man who had the final say today, a shot that chippped the keeper gave us the win. With two goals and ultimately the winning goal it is no surprise that Matt got the Oppositions Man of the Match along with our own Man of the Match.
OUR MAN OF THE MATCH - Matt Scanlon(S) - With two goals on his debut as a striker for the Won Shots, this man has now found his true position on the team. Congratulations Matt.
OPPOSITIONS MAN OF THE MATCH - Matt Scanlon(S) - Just goes to show that good taste can be shared by individuals.
